IT Basics for Beginners
What is IT support?
IT support helps businesses keep their computers, software, email, internet, printers and networks working properly. It can include fixing technical problems, setting up new devices, improving Wi-Fi, supporting Microsoft 365, helping with security and giving advice before buying new technology.
What is a server?
A server is a computer or system that provides services to other devices in a business. It may store files, run business software, manage users, host databases or help staff access shared resources. Some businesses use physical servers in the office, while others use cloud-based services instead.
What is cloud storage?
Cloud storage allows files to be stored online instead of only on one computer. Services such as OneDrive, SharePoint and Google Drive help staff access files from different devices, share documents and reduce the risk of losing data if a laptop is damaged or replaced.
What is a business network?
A business network connects computers, printers, phones, servers and other devices so they can communicate with each other and access the internet. A good network helps staff work efficiently, share resources and stay connected securely.
What is Wi-Fi vs internet?
The internet is the external service that connects your business to websites, email and cloud services. Wi-Fi is the wireless connection inside your building that allows devices to connect to your router or network. You can have working Wi-Fi but poor internet, or good internet service but weak Wi-Fi coverage.
